For Physicians
A few years ago, Rice University initiated the Doctors Offering Shadowing Experiences (DOSE) program with the purpose of promoting educational medical experiences through which undergraduates could participate in clinical activities alongside a physician. Before each academic year, DOSE coordinators invite physicians like yourself to participate in the program.
With the understanding that our physician mentors come from a variety of backgrounds, this program is designed to be adaptable to the diverse work schedules that are necessary to keep our city healthy. From the stories of past student participants, we know that your mentoring can create a tremendous positive impact for these students which will accompany them throughout their lives.
In order to create the best learning experiences, student participants are selected from a highly competitive pool of DOSE applicants, and are matched to an appropriate physician based on interest and schedule availability. The students are then free to personally arrange for their shadowing experiences with their physician mentor.
The DOSE program runs through the entire academic year, with opportunities for feedback and adjustments along the way. At the completion of the program in May, physicians and students are all invited to celebrate a year’s worth of dedication and hard work.
